Karen Hayes is recognized as a dynamic influencer in the Australian Not-for-Profit sector. Between November 2011 and June 2022 she was the CEO of the Victorian Division of Guide Dogs Australia and is now a well-respected non-executive director on a number of boards. A past Telstra Business Woman of the Year Award finalist, Karen is currently a Board member of Multiple Sclerosis Ltd (8 years), The Melbourne International Comedy Festival (8 years) and is a past board member of Vision 2020 Australia, (5 years) Melbourne Football Cub (7 years) and Breast Cancer Network Australia (15 years) and the International Guide Dog Federation (2 years). Karen grew up in Kadina, a small country town in South Australia, the eldest of four children, to modest but hard-working parents. They were a family with deep family principles who instilled the values of honesty and integrity, service to others and a strong work ethic in Karen from an early age. She left school at just 15 years of age with an intense sense of enthusiasm and a strong determination to succeed. With no formal qualifications to her name, she began her career as a Loans Officer at the local bank. Within 10 years, Karen had climbed the corporate ladder and was travelling around the world in a variety of senior executive roles in the Information Technology and Business Services sector. In 1996, at the age of 37, Karen was diagnosed with breast cancer and her career took second place as she took on the fight of her life.
