I grew up in Malaysia, came to Melbourne for university to study law and accounting, and stayed on as my dad decided to immigrate to Australia while I was finishing my degree. I have always been independent, so moving to a new country was exciting. It still took me a while to adapt to a new culture. The best part of university life (besides my formal education) was making new friends, some of whom are still my closest and dearest friends. My first job after university and legal training was at KPMG, where I had a long and wonderful career, with lots of opportunities, from secondments to the CSIRO and the US Silicon Valley, to being the division HR partner, to being a founding partner of the first Diversity Committee and of course working with many diverse clients across various industries. Again, colleagues and clients have become lifelong friends. The experience and skills I learnt set me up for my next and current role. Always had a passion for the not-for-profit sector, getting to know

Started my career in general and specialist nursing giving me a solid grounding and insight into the human condition and the significant challenges faced by many in our community. I know I had some experiences that only other health professionals would relate to! I then had the challenge of being appointed to one of three new roles in Victoria to co-ordinate organ transplants. Again, a role that both inspired and grounded me at the same time. Around this time, I studied Sociology/Arts, married, had two beautiful children and graduated with Honours with an empirical thesis based on data analysis of the 1992 Federal Election. My statistical background led to a research role at Cancer Council of Victoria. I was at the CCV and also on the policy committee of the Labor Part when Labor won the State Election. I was appointed a policy advisor in 2000 to the Health Minister, a wonderful experience of public policy development and implementation. In 2002 I stood for the seemingly unwinnable se

I enjoy time with talented people solving interesting challenges. Since retiring as a member of the executive team of NAB in 2016 I have embraced the freedom to do things I find interesting. During my executive career I experienced many demanding leadership and commercial issues including dealing with a wide range of reputation, governance, organisation and industry challenges. Adapting to changing environments and understanding, managing and meeting stakeholder expectations have been essential. My years in the mining, chemicals and manufacturing industries provided solid foundation in business operations, transformation, productivity, strategy and community relations. Over a decade in the executive team at NAB enhanced my understanding of governance, risk, capital management, funding, regulators, governance, digital disruption, culture and government and shareholder relations. I have commitment to seeking sustainable results with the individuals and organisations I work with

An accidental executive who never aspired to be in a leadership role I worked really hard and fast with a life plan to have freedom of choice by the time I was 50. I am married to Dan ( one of the most kind, considerate and tidy people you will ever meet) and we have a son James. Dan tolerates my foraging for funghi (but refuses to eat anything I find as he thinks it might be poisonous).
